INSTITUTE MEMBERS IN THE NEWS AND OTHER HIGHLIGHTSLeft-Handed Metamaterials: Prof. Srinivas Sridhar and his group's work on Left-Handed Metamaterials has received extensive press coverage recently. His group participated in a press conference at the American Physical Society March Meeting, Austin, Texas on March 5, 2003. Profiles of Prof. Sridhar's work on Left-Handed Metamaterials have appeared in New Scientist, APS Physics News, May 2003 issue of Physics Today and AIP News. For more information on this research see http://sagar.physics.neu.edu Updated May 26, 2003 A new facility has been added to Northeastern’s Electronic Materials Research Institute (eMRI) by Prof. Don Heiman. The state-of-the-art SQUID magnetometer was purchased from Quantum Design with major contributions from the NSF, Provost's Office, College of Arts and Sciences, and Department of Chemistry. Space in the Egan Research Center was provided by the Department of Physics. The instrument will be used by faculty and students in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Engineering. This on-campus facility will accelerate NU’s cutting-edge research in nanoscience and biotechnology. (See http://www.squid.neu.edu/home.html) Dated: Nov. 8, 2002 |
